Paul Turner pitched his family's traditional sausage manufacturing business, trading as Alf Turner, into a Den panel that tends to grill food pitches hard on production costs and shelf life.

The company is still active, and it survived a genuine near miss along the way.

The Terms

Turner asked for £80,000 for 33 percent of the company, and Peter Jones backed the full amount at those terms, bringing retail and supply chain experience that would matter more than usual for this business.

A third of the company for the investment is a substantial equity give, suggesting real scrutiny before anyone agreed to the numbers.

Losing The Shelf Space

In spring 2020, contract manufacturer ABP shut the Kent site that had been making the product, and the brand lost its remaining supermarket listing outright.

For a small food producer, losing that last piece of shelf space is about as close to fatal as it gets, since the cost of running production does not vanish just because the retail outlet did.

Fighting Back Onto Shelves

The Best of British and Pork and Real Ale ranges returned to sale across 285 Morrisons branches nationwide, a genuine reentry into major supermarket distribution.

The company also branched out beyond sausages, with its Dragon's Egg scotch egg reaching One Stop, Waitrose, Spar and Nisa, and its pork scratchings sold through Booker; Companies House still shows the business as active with accounts on file.

Note: Based on the public record; company situations can change, so treat this as a snapshot.
