Gary Taylor pitched Alpine Cleaning, a franchised service for washing heavy goods vehicles, wanting £200,000 for 40 percent of the business, and reached an agreement with Deborah Meaden and Theo Paphitis.

The official UK company register confirms the business closed in 2015.

A Franchise Built On Real Demand

Fleet operators need their vehicles washed on a regular schedule for appearance and regulatory reasons alike, giving Taylor's pitch a sturdier demand argument than many of the consumer novelty items pitching in the same era. A franchise model is also a tougher sell than a single product, since backers have to believe in a network of operators scaling it, not just the underlying service.

Meaden and Paphitis agreed to fund the £200,000 ask for the 40 percent stake on the table, one of the larger commitments made in the studio that year.

What The Register Shows

The official UK register lists Alpine Truck Cleaning Limited, company number 08231956, as dissolved, with a dissolution date of 24 February 2015, later than some earlier accounts of this pitch have stated.

A separate business, UK Truck Clean, operates in the same portable HGV washing space today, though nothing ties it to Taylor's original venture beyond sharing a market.

Why A Franchise Is Hard To Scale

Franchised services in a niche like HGV cleaning depend on recruiting and keeping a network of local operators, a genuinely harder model to scale than it looks, since the parent company's income rides entirely on how well each franchisee performs.

Whatever HGV cleaning operation you find today, it is not this one running under its original ownership. The register is unambiguous on the closure.

Note: Based on the public record; company situations can change, so treat this as a snapshot.
